There are many reasons for this.

      1. You made recent changes to your site. It is not necessary that the changes should be major. Even a small minor change like HTTP to HTTPS can cause a decrease in search engine ranking ( If your site is not properly migrated to HTTPS request then it may cause various problems like mixed content error, 404 errors, etc.)

      2. It is generally observed that Google likes new and fresh content. Hence, when you have fresh content, it appears on the first page. Next, once it grows older, it starts decreasing (this is the reasons why it is advisable to update your content from time to time)

      3. Initially, since you are working hard for your site, it was ranking higher in the search but once you stopped working on your site, slowly and gradually it also starts decreasing in the search engine. Remember, your competitors are closer than it appears. Once you slow down, they will overtake your position.

      4. The last reason could Google Updates. Officially or Unofficially, Google makes lots of updates every month.
Hence, it may be possible that your site was initially compatible with Google updates and now it is not compatible with the recent updates of google.

Above all are the major reasons for decreasing the ranking. If you want the site-specific suggesstion then I request you to please share your site personally over email.
